About the Games
On the 2nd July 2003 the International Olympic Committee announced that the XXI Olympic Winter Games would be held in the city of Vancouver in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
One of the great advantages of the Games being hosted by Vancouver is the close proximity to the world-renowned skiing resort of Whistler, which will provide the slopes for the alpine skiing events.
There will be two Olympic Villages, built to house the competitors and officials during the games, one in Vancouver, the other in Whistler. Once the Games are over the villages will be converted to residential housing and healthcare facilities for the local population.
